Für die examine wurde je ein Korpus der zweiten Halbzeit des Spiels um Platz three bei der Weltmeisterschaft 2006 – Deutschland gegen Portugal – erstellt. Für die Bestimmung von Metaphern wurden die Metapherntheorien von Lakoff/Johnson (1980) und Weinrich herangezogen. Lakoff/Johnson benutzen eine kognitive Metapherntheorie und Weinrich betrachtet Metaphern als ein kontextabhängiges Phänomen. Beide Theorien bestehen aus ähnlichen Elementen: für Weinrich ergeben sich Metaphern aus der Interaktione von einem Bildspender und einem Bildempfänger, für Lakoff/Johnson aus der Interaktion einer „source area“ und einer „target domain“.

Ziel ist es herauszufinden, ob im Radio ein anderer Metapherngebrauch herrscht als im Fernsehen, da das Medium Radio nur den akustischen Kanal benutzt. Zwei spezielle Thesen, die in der Arbeit überprüft werden, sind: 1. Im Radio werden mehr dynamisierende Metaphern (Reger 1977) benutzt, um die Dynamik des Spiels darzustellen. 2. Im Radio werden mehr kreative Metaphern benutzt, da das Spiel für den Hörer erst sprachlich erzeugt werden muss.
